There are two weeks to go to the start of the The North Face® Lavaredo Ultra Trail. People are coming from all over the world to run in the Dolomites.

Tension is mounting in the Ampezzo valley with the start of the The North Face® Lavaredo Ultra Trail, scheduled for Friday, June 28th at 11 pm, in sight. It is a fascinating competition of 118 kilometres with a climb of 5,700 metres along the most beautiful trails in the Dolomites, at an altitude between 1200 and 2500 metres. There will be a total of 1,500 athletes, divided between the Ultra Trail (800) and the Cortina Trail (700), peacefully invading Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the province of Belluno, for a long weekend dedicated to the trail and the incredible outdoor world that revolves around this exciting sport.
The charm of the Dolomites and the professionalism of the organizing committee have once again captured the attention and curiosity of athletes from all over the world. In fact, 32 nations will be represented on the day of the race, with the percentage of foreign visitors exceeding 30%. The largest groups come from France, Spain, Germany and East Europe, but there are athletes from countries as far away as Australia, the United States and Japan. The common denominator that links these trailers, in addition to the passion for running long distances, is the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and its symbol: the Three Peaks of Lavaredo. The competitors, in the early hours of Saturday, June 29th, with the red light of dawn, will pass under the edge of Cima Piccola’s Spigolo Giallo, accompanied by the majesty of Cima Ovest and Cima Grande, the highest in the group with its 2,999 metres of altitude.
In addition to attracting international competitors, local athletes also want to participate in The North Face® Ultra Trail Lavaredo. Among the favourites to win is Ivano Molin, a forester from Auronzo, fresh from winning – with Eugen Innerkofler – the Dolomites Extreme Trail.
In addition to the 118 kilometres of the longer race on Saturday morning, the Cortina Trail will also leave from Corso Italia in Cortina d'Ampezzo, now in its second edition, and will cross the mountain ranges that surround the ‘Queen of the Dolomites’: Tofane, Cinque Torri, and Croda da Lago. Thirty locals will set off on the Cortina Trail, as a demonstration of the love and passion they feel for their mountains.
In the last few days those responsible for the trail have been carrying out checks of the route to verify whether it is possible to use the trail at high altitudes or not, after heavy spring snowfalls at high altitude. The snow situation, thanks to the anticyclone that is arriving, should improve and therefore allow the original route to be run.
For those who will not participate in the race, but would like to live this adventure to the full, the organizing committee is providing the opportunity to work as volunteers at the event. For further information see: www.ultratrail.it
